Delete your account
1. Purpose
This page says how to delete your Namup account, and what deletion erases. It describes two paths: from inside the app, and without installing it. The service is operated by Namup, LLC, a Delaware company; the address is in section 6.
2. From inside the app
Open Settings, then “Legal & privacy”, then “Delete my data”. A two-step confirmation asks you to confirm, and nothing is erased before that. This path exists on the site and in the installed app alike, and it goes through no support request.
3. Without installing the app
Write to privacy@namup.net from the email address of the account to be deleted. That address is what identifies the account, which is why the request comes from it. We answer within 30 days, as for any other right exercised in writing.
4. A subscription taken by a store is cancelled first
A subscription taken by the App Store or by Google Play is cancelled from your account settings with that store, and only that store can do it. While it runs, deletion is refused rather than carried out: erasing the account would leave a charge running that nothing could tie back to anyone. A subscription taken by Stripe is cancelled by our servers before any erasure.
5. What deletion erases, and what survives
Deletion erases the encrypted backup, the documents placed in your vault, your row in the waitlist, your sign-in account, and the subscription row attached to it. The device is purged after that, and only once the server-side erasure has succeeded; if it fails, the device is not purged and the screen says so. No confirmation message is sent. What survives is the accounting trail of a payment already taken, kept by Stripe under its own obligations, the emails between us, which we erase when you ask, and the fingerprint of your email address (a one-way calculation: the same address always gives the same result, and the result cannot be turned back into the address), kept for 24 months so the free month cannot be taken over and over. The Privacy Policy gives its legal basis and its retention period.
